Turn YouTube Into Your Learning Space.
Learn what you came for. Block what pulls you away. Knolect transforms YouTube into an intentional study environment with Strict Focus Mode, channel allowlisting, and session timing.
The Recommendation Trap
YouTube holds the world's greatest educational lectures. Yet the default interface is engineered to pull learners away from coursework.
The Algorithmic Pull
Every screen element is optimized for watch time, converting focused study sessions into fragmented attention.
- Infinite Home Shelves: Sensational recommendations hijack your initial intention before you even begin studying.
- Shorts & Rapid Feeds: Endless vertical reels fragment deep concentration and interrupt steady study pacing.
- Related Sidebar Traps: Watch page sidebars suggest unrelated viral videos while you are trying to understand a lecture.
- Search Traps: Typing a topic exposes you to clickbait thumbnails instead of structured curriculum.
The Allowlist Defense
Inverts the access model. Non-coursework recommendations are intercepted, leaving only intentional study.
- Strict Focus Perimeter: Unapproved videos and distraction feeds are cleanly blocked by default during active focus.
- Curated Study Allowlist: Verified educators (MIT OCW, 3Blue1Brown, freeCodeCamp) and your personal study channels play seamlessly.
- Pomodoro Session Pacing: Built-in 15m, 25m, 45m, and 60m timers create clear boundaries and protect mental stamina.
- Client-Side Interception: Operates locally inside your browser with zero browsing history or watch telemetry harvested.

Built for Intentional Study
Every feature in Knolect is engineered to keep your attention anchored on what matters.
Allowlist-First Blocking
Traditional website blockers require you to specify hundreds of distraction URLs. Knolect flips this model: in Strict Focus Mode, every entertainment recommendation is blocked by default, while educational videos from your study allowlist load seamlessly.
Channel Allowlisting
Curate trusted creators (MIT OCW, 3Blue1Brown, freeCodeCamp) or save custom study channels directly from any active video. Allowlisted creators bypass blocking seamlessly.
Shorts & Feed Suppression
Eliminates high-stimulus Shorts shelves, navigation buttons, and infinite vertical reels. Prevents entertainment recommendations from dragging you into rabbit holes.
Pomodoro Session Timer
Timestamp-based focus timer (15m, 25m, 45m, 60m). Operates via background alarms, survives popup closing, and renders live countdown badges in your browser toolbar.
SPA Transition Defense
Intercepts YouTube's single-page application router events and dynamic element mutations to re-enforce your focus perimeter across video transitions, while letting you pause or toggle focus anytime.
Local-First Storage
Zero browsing history harvesting, zero search logging, and no external tracking SDKs. All focus preferences and allowed channels reside safely in your browser local storage.
Granular Distraction Toggles
Selectively hide comments, suppress recommendation sidebars, remove Shorts, or mute thumbnails. Customise your learning environment exactly how you learn best.

What is Knolect?
Knolect is a Manifest V3 Chromium extension that transforms YouTube into a focused learning environment by blocking recommendations, Shorts, comments, and home feeds while keeping educational videos usable.
Does it block YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Knolect completely eliminates Shorts navigation links, sidebar buttons, feed shelves, and direct /shorts/* video URLs.
Can I search YouTube while Focus Mode is active?
In Normal Focus Mode, search remains available. In Strict Focus Mode, search results are blocked with a clean block screen to prevent algorithmic distraction loops.
Can I allow my own study channels?
Yes! You can add any channel by name, @handle, or YouTube URL in the popup. You can also click "+ Allow this channel" directly on any active video.
Does Knolect collect browsing history?
No. Knolect does not collect, transmit, or store your YouTube watch history or search queries. All focus settings are stored locally in your browser sandbox.
Does it work after refreshing YouTube?
Yes. All settings are persistently stored via chrome.storage.local. When you refresh or navigate inside YouTube, Knolect immediately re-applies focus rules.
Can I disable Focus Mode when I want?
