Knolect Privacy Policy
We believe productivity software should respect your attention and your data. This policy clearly describes how Knolect operates, what data is stored on your device, and when network communication occurs.
1. Core Architectural Principles
Knolect is built on a local-first foundation:
- Zero Telemetry SDKs: Knolect does not embed Google Analytics, PostHog, Mixpanel, third-party trackers, or advertising pixels.
- Zero Watch History Harvesting: We do not collect, monitor, log, or sell your YouTube video watch history or search queries.
- On-Device DOM Filtering: YouTube feed suppression and allowlist enforcement occur entirely inside your browser tab.
2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
When you configure Knolect, preferences are saved directly to your browser's local sandbox storage (chrome.storage.local). This data stays on your machine and includes:
- Focus Configuration: Whether Focus Mode and Strict Focus are switched ON or OFF.
- UI Filter Settings: Your choices to suppress Shorts, recommendations, comments, home feed, or thumbnails.
- Study Allowlist: Channels you explicitly add to your study list (channel handle, channel name, YouTube channel ID, and channel avatar URL).
- Session Timer State: Pomodoro countdown values (duration, remaining seconds, start time, and background alarm timestamps).
- Local Session Statistics: On-device counts of focus minutes completed, sessions finished, and distractions filtered today, along with recent session timestamps.
3. When Does Knolect Access the Network?
Under standard operation, the Knolect extension makes no unsolicited background network calls to external tracking or telemetry servers:
- Direct YouTube Video Streaming: Video playback, comments, and channels continue to load directly between your browser and YouTube (Google LLC) under their terms of service. Knolect does not proxy, intercept, or reroute video traffic.
- Optional Account Synchronization: If you explicitly link an account and receive an authentication token, the extension dashboard requests your synced stats from
/api/user/dashboardusing an authorized bearer token. If you use Knolect without an account, this request is never initiated. - Marketing & Documentation Website: Visiting our website (
knolect.app/kublyfocus.vercel.app) requests static assets (HTML, CSS, JS, SVG icons, fonts) from our hosting infrastructure (Vercel).
4. Information Submitted via Support Forms
If you choose to use our support and contact forms on the Support page, you voluntarily transmit information to our backend:
- Feedback Form: Submits your selected feedback type (General, Feature Request, Praise) and your written message to
/api/feedback. - Bug Report Form: Submits your bug title, description, selected browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera), and extension version identifier to
/api/bugsto help us reproduce and fix issues.
These submissions are used solely for debugging, customer assistance, and product development.
5. How to Delete Your Data
Because your channels, timer logs, and settings live locally in your browser:
- Reset Settings: You can remove individual channels or clear settings directly from the Knolect popup and dashboard.
- Complete Removal: Right-clicking the Knolect icon in your browser toolbar and selecting "Remove from Browser" immediately and permanently purges all local extension storage from your machine.
6. Questions & Contact
